CONTACT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS

In an effort to save Brentwood Park from certain destruction as a result of Bill 47, friends, family and neighbours have written hundreds of letters and emails to convince elected government officials that our neighbourhood is worth saving.

After receiving an impromptu petition of approximately 300 residents in Spring 2024, Mayor Mike Hurley and many council members publicly supported our cause and formally submitted a request to the Province to exempt Brentwood Park from Bill 47.  Even with the City's support, no definitive results have been achieved to date.  However, we still encourage everyone to continue to express your concerns to Provincial Government officials, including the following people:

Premier, David Eby - david.eby.mla@leg.bc.ca; phone: (604) 660-1297 or premier@gov.bc.ca; phone (250) 387-1715
Housing Minister, Ravi Kahlon - ravi.kahlon.mla@leg.bc.ca; phone: (604) 502-5449
Transportation Minister - Rob Fleming - rob.fleming.mla@leg.bc.ca; phone (250) 356-5013
Burnaby North MLA - Janet Routledge - janet.routledge.mla@leg.bc.ca; phone (604) 775-0833

You can also send messages to the City of Burnaby's Planning and Development Committee made up of the following people:

Councillor Pietro Calendino - pietro.calendino@burnaby.ca; phone: (604) 614-7379

Councillor Sav Dhaliwal - sav.dhaliwal@burnaby.ca; phone: (778) 228-0247

Councillor Alison Gu - alison.gu@burnaby.ca; phone: (604) 417-7689

STATUTORY BUILDING SCHEMES

The good news is that we no longer have to rely on government officials to protect us.  With Statutory Building Schemes, the ability to save our beloved neighbourhood is in our hands.

We're not referring to the R-10 zoning which was governed by the City of Burnaby, and effective July 1, 2024 has been replaced with a new R1 zone created to permit development of multiplexes under Bill 44

Statutory Building Schemes grant homeowners the right to compel their neighbours to comply with certain restrictions set out in this legally binding agreement.  SBS's can be used as an effective tool to fend off high-density development in our neighbourhood.
